- The Lead: In Northeast-10 play on Wednesday night, the Assumption College women's lacrosse team dropped a 14-9 final to visiting Southern New Hampshire University at the Multi-Sport Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Sophomore Alexis Pastore (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Charles W. Baker) put the Hounds up 1-0 just 1:50 in off an assist from sophomore Caitlin Graves (Ashland, Mass./Ashland). The teams traded goals until a 3-0 Penmen scoring run gave the visitors a 4-2 edge with 13:31 left before halftime.
- Assumption quickly closed the deficit back down to just one goal and eventually trailed 6-5 with 3:52 remaining in the half on the second goal of the game from Pastore. Assisting on the goal was junior Quincy Wilkins (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug).
- Kristin Wilder scored late in the first for the 7-5 lead at the break, sparking an overall 4-0 scoring run that put the Penmen in control at 10-5 with 23:26 on the clock. Assumption pulled within three at 11-8 with 9:18 left on a man-up goal from Wilkins, but the Penmen answered en route to the five-goal victory.
- Junior goalie Jaclyn Chirco (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) and senior Sadie Landon (Leominster, Mass./Leominster) combined for 11 saves in the loss, while Nicole Kennedy made 16 stops to pick up the victory for the Penmen.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Senior Molly Brown (Manchester, N.H./Manchester West) and freshman Sarah Reilly (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Warde) each posted a hat trick, while Pastore had two goals and Wilkins finished with one goal and one assist. Senior Julianna Molloy (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) finished with a game-high three assists to go along with four draw controls.
- Alexa Bedell and Wilder posted five goals each, while Alexa Allen added a pair of goals.
- As a team, the Hounds outshot the Penmen 36-30 while the teams were even in ground balls with 14 each. Assumption posted a 13-11 edge in draw controls while forcing 17 Penmen turnovers.
