Women's Lacrosse Falls to No. 1 Adelphi on Senior Day

THE BASICS:

- Score: No. 1 Adelphi 18, Assumption 3

- Location: Worcester, Mass. (Multi-Sport Stadium)

- The Lead: On Senior Day on Saturday afternoon, the Assumption College women's lacrosse team dropped an 18-3 final to No. 1 ranked Adelphi University in a Northeast-10 Conference game. The game marked the sixth nationally-ranked opponent for Assumption in 2016. Prior to the game, the Hounds recognized seven members of the Assumption College women's lacrosse program who were appearing in their final career home games.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The game was scoreless for the first seven minutes of action until junior Jacqueline Jahelka scored off an assist from Rachel O'Brien for the 1-0 lead. The Panthers stretched that lead to 9-0 with 9:15 left in the first before freshman Krista Iwanicki (Granby, Conn./Granby Memorial) scored her third goal of the year. Assumption took an 11-1 lead into the break, en route to the eventual 18-3 victory.

- Also scoring in the game for the Hounds was freshman Sarah Reilly (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Warde) and sophomore Jen McDonald (Walpole, Mass./Walpole).

- Senior Sadie Landon (Leominster, Mass./Leominster) got the start in net for the Hounds and finished with seven saves that included a number of outstanding stops on point blank shots. Taylor Hayes earned the win for Adelphi as she had five stops in nearly 52 minutes of play.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- The teams were even in ground balls at eight each, while Adelphi held a 15-7 advantage in draw controls.

- Assumption was 8-for-9 in clear attempts, while Adelphi converted 11-of-13 clear opportunities. Adelphi was also a perfect 5-for-5 in free position shots, while Assumption forced nine Panther turnovers.

- O'Brien, Jahelka and Emily Keesling each had four goals for the Panthers, while O'Brien added six assists in the win.

UP NEXT:

- Assumption returns to action on Wednesday, April 27th as the Hounds travel to Saint Anselm College for a 7 p.m. start at Grappone Stadium.
