- The Lead: At Grappone Stadium on Wednesday night, the Assumption College women's lacrosse team dropped a 17-6 final to Saint Anselm College in Northeast-10 Conference action.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Freshman Kailyn Hart (Cohoes, N.Y./Shaker) gave the Hounds an early 1-0 lead before Saint Anselm's Caitlin Villareal scored three times in 9:43 to later stake the Hawks to a 4-1 advantage.
-Back-to-back goals from freshman Sarah Reilly (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Warde) and sophomore Jen McDonald (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) made it just a 4-3 margin with 9:53 on the clock in the first before the Hawks eventually took the 7-3 lead into the break. The Hounds used five goals from Villareal to build the lead, while Reilly and senior Molly Brown (Manchester, N.H./Manchester West) eventually closed the margin to 8-5 with 16:30 remaining in the second.
- Saint Anselm posted a 9-1 scoring run over the rest of the game, en route to 17-6 final victory as the Hawks held a 17-9 edge in ground balls.
- Over the game, the Hounds had a 15-10 advantage in draw controls and converted six clear chances, while being outshot 34-19.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Junior Jaclyn Chirco (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) made 10 saves in the loss, while Jane Bunn had eight saves for the win.
- Reilly had two goals for the Hounds, while Villareal had seven and Erin Marshall posted three goals and one assist.
UP NEXT:
- Assumption returns to action on Saturday, April 30th as the Hounds travel to Merrimack College for a 4 p.m. start in North Andover, Mass.
