Hounds Drop 13-10 Road Final at No. 16 Stonehill

THE BASICS:

- The Lead: On Tuesday evening in Northeast-10 Conference action, the Assumption College women's lacrosse team dropped a narrow 13-10 road final at No. 16 ranked Stonehill College at W.B. Mason Stadium. This marked the fourth nationally-ranked opponent that the Hounds have faced in 2016.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Stonehill jumped out to the early 1-0 lead just 1:50 into the game before the Hounds embarked on a 4-0 scoring run over the next 6:09 for the 4-1 edge. Capping off the run was a goal from junior Julianna Molloy (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) as she tallied her first of the game with 20:42 left in the first half.

- Molloy scored with 14:48 on the clock for a 5-3 Hounds lead before three straight Stonehill goals over the rest of the period gave the Skyhawks the 6-5 halftime lead. Rebecca Matheson tallied the go-ahead score on a free position goal with 2:09 left in the period.

- Assumption sophomore Caitlin Graves (Ashland, Mass./Ashland) got Assumption off to a strong start in the second as she scored a pair of goals for the 7-6 lead with 22:17 on the clock.

- Stonehill answered with a decisive 7-0 run over 17:27 though to take a 13-7 lead before the Hounds ended that run on a score from Molloy with 2:56 on the clock. Overall, Assumption ended the game on a 3-0 scoring spurt that was capped by a goal from freshman Kailyn Hart (Cohoes, N.Y./Shaker) for the 13-10 final.

- Junior goalie Jaclyn Chirco (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) posted five saves in the loss, while two Stonehill goalies combined for eight stops for the win as Kaitlyn Hess picked up the win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Molloy paced the team with three goals, two assists, three ground balls and two draw controls, while Graves added three goals and four ground balls. Hart was also solid again with a two-goal, two-assist effort.

- For the Skyhawks, Vetter had a game-high five goals to go along with five draw controls as three other Stonehill players each had two goals apiece.

- Assumption forced 15 Stonehill turnovers and held a 22-20 edge in ground balls, while the Skyhawks had a 23-20 edge in shots and owned the 15-10 advantage on the draw.

- Assumption is back in action on Saturday, April 9th as the Hounds host Bentley University for a Northeast-10 Conference game beginning at 1 p.m. at the Multi-Sport Stadium.
