- The Lead: Despite a valiant rally from a 9-3 second-half deficit, the Assumption College women's lacrosse team dropped an eventual 11-10 home final to No. 18 ranked Bentley University on Saturday afternoon at the Multi-Sport Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Bentley jumped out to a 4-1 lead over the first 22:49, including a man-up goal from Meredith Hart on a free position shot midway through the half. Assumption ended the opening period on a two-goal run though as junior Julianna Molloy (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) and sophomore Jen McDonald (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) found the net over the last 3:34 to send the game into the break at 4-3 in favor of Bentley.
- Three free position shots in the first 5:20 of the second half seemingly put the game firmly in Bentley's control at 8-3 before the Hounds ended the run with the second goal of the game from Molloy. The Falcons answered with a goal from Erin O'Connor though and continued to lead by a 9-4 margin with 22:26 left in the game.
- Assumption embarked on a 6-0 scoring run over a span of 8:22 as five different players scored in the rally. Freshman Kailyn Hart (Cohoes, N.Y./Shaker) had two goals in the run, along with the go-ahead goal from freshman Sarah Reilly (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Warde) with 13:30 remaining to make it 10-9 in favor of the Hounds.
- Bentley tied the game on the second goal of the season from Nikki Christopulos with 9:17 remaining and eventually scored the game-winner with 5:30 remaining as Hannah Lindgren took the pass from Kelsey Howard for the 11-10 margin.
- Junior goalie Jaclyn Chirco (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) posted 10 saves in the loss, while Lauren Ochs made 10 stops to pick up the victory for the Falcons.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Molloy led the Hounds with three goals and one assist, while sophomore Meghan Cushing (Gorham, Maine/Gorham), McDonald and Hart all had a pair of goals. Lindgren posted four goals and one assist for the Falcons, while O'Connor added a hat trick and Hart had two scores.
- Assumption held a 14-10 advantage in ground balls for the game, while Bentley owned the edge in draw controls at 13-9. The Hounds forced 13 Falcon turnovers while also converted a perfect 15-of-15 clear attempts and outshooting Bentley 28-27 overall.
UP NEXT:
- Assumption is back in action on Wednesday, April 13th as the Hounds host Southern New Hampshire University. The game is the team's Blue Out Game and will begin at 7 p.m. at the Multi-Sport Stadium.
