- The Lead: The Assumption College women's volleyball team fell 3-0 to Pace in an NE10 Conference match on Tuesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Assumption held the lead through the first 11 points. Ariana Orcera (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico / Colegio Marista) had a kill and an ace while Mary Campbell (Plainville, Mass. / Bishop Feehan) and Kellie Smith (Richland, Mich. / Gull Lake) each added kills. At the 10th point the setters scored four consecutive times to take the lead 13-11. Later in the set the Hounds scored four points in a row to tie the match 16-16. It remained even throughout the end of the match, but Natalia Quinones and Claudia Fontanet had two kills in a row to end the match 25-22 in favor of the Setters.
- Pace had the lead until the seventh point when Orcera had a kill to change possession. Throughout the next 15 points the Hounds and Setters went back-and-forth being held at a 22-22 tie until the Setters tallied three consecutive kills to end the match 25-22 and take the 2-0 advantage.
- In the third set Pace maintained the lead the entire match to eventually win it 25-17. The Hounds went down 4-1 in the first five points and never recovered to tie the game. Later in the set, Assumption went on a five point run to cut the deficit to 20-15, but Pace took advantage of Hound errors and scored the last three points to remain unbeaten and take the set 25-17.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Assumption recorded a hitting percentage of .138, tallied 32 kills, 50 digs and two blocks while Pace hit .248 to go with 48 kills, 60 digs and four blocks.
- Orcera hit .192, and led the team with nine kills, 13 digs, two aces, and two blocks. Julia Goyette (Randolph, Mass./Ursuline Academy) added eight kills, while Kiki Romanik (San Rafael, Calif. / Sir Francis Drake) recorded 37 assists, and Smith had 13 digs.
- Sydney Lecker led Setters with 15 kills nine digs and a block. Samantha Nidini had 24 assists, while Fontanet had nine kills, three assists and 15 digs.
