THE BASICS:

- Score: Assumption 3, Le Moyne 2 (9-25, 17-25, 25-22, 25-17, 15-13)

- Record: Assumption (4-11, 2-4 NE10), Le Moyne (8-8, 1-5 NE10)

- Location: Syracuse, N.Y. (Ted Grant Court) 

- The Lead: The Hounds dropped the first two sets, but fought back to capture the next three, including a 15-13 decision in the final set to defeat Le Moyne 3-2 in an NE10 conference match on Saturday afternoon. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  Le Moyne took a 4-0 lead early in the first set, but two kills by seniors Julia Goyette (Randolph, Mass./Ursuline Academy) and Olivia Burke (Salem, N.H. / Salem) assisted by Kiki Romanik (San Rafael, Calif. / Sir Francis Drake) cut the deficit to 5-2. The Dolphins scored six consectutive points later in the set to take the 17-6 lead and then added another set of seven points to extend their lead 24-7. Burke had a block, but a kill by Jessica Miller ended the set 25-9 in favor of Le Moyne. 

- In the second set Le Moyne jumped out to a 9-3 lead. Assumption scored three consecutive points to close the gap to 9-6. Throughout the rest of the set the the points went back and forth. Junior Kellie Smith (Richland, Mich. / Gull Lake) recorded a kill to make the score 17-23, but an attack error and a kill by Jacquelyne Ghindia ended the set 25-17.

- The Hounds came back to win the third set. The set was even through the first ten points, but Le Moyne went on a 5-0 run to take the 10-5 lead. A kill from Romanik assisted by senior Maria Chrisom (Dover, N.H. / Saint Thomas Aquinas) allowed the Hounds to keep possession of the ball and score three points to make the score 8-10. Later in the set Assumption took the lead for the first time in the match 20-18 on two kills from Smith. Goyette and freshman Mary Campbell (Plainville, Mass. / Bishop Feehan) recorded two blocks each to maintain the lead 24-19. Marguerite Dillion of Le Moyne had two kills to cut the lead by two but Campbell ended the set 25-22.

- Assumption took a 4-2 advantage early in the set, but the Dolphins answered with a five point run to take the 7-4 lead. The Hounds went on a 13-3 run to extend their lead to 20-11 before Le Moyne took the next six points to draw close. Assumption took the remaining points to earn the 25-17 win and force a fifth set.

- The final set was back-and-forth and eventually tied 11-11, until a kill by Burke and an attack error on the Dolphins gave the Hounds the two point advantage. A kill by Ghindia brought Le Moyne within one, but Smith answered with a kill to keep the lead by two. Campbell finished off Le Moyne with a kill for the 15-13 comeback victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Assumption hit .123 in the contest with 41 kills and 73 digs while Le Moyne had 59 kills, hit .136 and recorded 94 digs. The Hounds did have five aces and totaled 12 blocks 

- Romanik led the offense with six kills, 31 assists and 16 digs, while Smith added a double-double of 14 kills and ten digs. Campbell recorded six blocks with five kills while Burke had five total blocks and seven kills. Goyette chipped in eight kills and four blocks as Chrisom led the defense with 18 digs.

- Dillon tallied 16 kills and 14 digs while Mikayla Porr added 27 digs. Both Jessica Miller and Anna Hafoka recorded 13 kills for the Dolphins.
