Women's Lacrosse Surges Past AIC 14-7

THE BASICS:

- Score: Assumption 14, AIC 7

- Record: Assumption (3-2, 2-1 NE10), AIC (1-5, 0-4 NE10)

- Location: Springfield, Mass.

The Lead: With the score tied 2-2 early in the first half, Assumption scored ten straight goals to break open the contest and come away with a 14-7 victory over AIC on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Junior Alexis Pastore (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / Charles W. Baker) gave Assumption a 1-0 lead just 49 seconds into the contest, and Caitlin Graves (Ashland, Mass. / Ashland) made it 2-0 just 40 seconds later. AIC got on the board at 27:05 to trim the lead and actually tied it up 2-2 with 23:57 left.

- Assumption took back the lead on a goal by Amanda Burns (Billerica, Mass. / Billerica Memorial) 50 seconds later and goals by Jenny Bush (Kennebunk, Maine / Kennebunk), Burns and Jen McDonald (Walpole, Mass. / Walpole) extended the lead to 6-2 with 21:06 still left in the half. The Hounds scored six more times in the final 16 minutes, with the final two scores coming from Sarah Reilly (Fairfield, Conn. / Fairfield-Warde) and Burns in the last 2:02 of the period.

- The Yellow Jackets led off the second half with a goal at 28:25, but Burns responded with a goal three minutes later to extend the lead to ten goals once again. Tianna Habosian (Westford, Mass.) stretched the lead to 14-3 though AIC answered with a goal at 17:10. The Yellow Jackets held Assumption scoreless the rest of the way and added four goals to close the final score to 14-7.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Assumption outshot AIC 32-17 in the contest, including a dominant 25-6 edge in the first half. AIC did pick up more ground balls (24-15) but turned the ball over 16 times.

- Burns had her best performance of the season, scoring a career-best six goals with one assist and two draws, while Bush added one goal, one assist and four draw controls. Graves chipped in pair of goals as well.

- Jaclyn Chirco (Hopkinton, Mass. / Hopkinton) stopped seven shots in net to secure her third win of the season while Alexis Torosian took the loss while giving up 14 goals and making nine saves.
