The Lead: Assumption limited No. 3 Le Moyne to just four goals in the opening half but was unable to get on the board and scored just three times in the second as the Hounds fell 10-3 to the Dolphins on Wednesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Le Moyne scored early with a goal at 25:31 for the 1-0 lead. The Dolphins added three more goals for a 4-0 advantage going into the half, with two of them coming from Vicki Graveline. Assumption did have two good shots on net in the last 30 seconds of the half, including a free position shot that hit the post from Caitlin Graves (Ashland, Mass. / Ashland).
The Dolphins extended their lead to 7-0 before Assumption got on the board with its first goal at 17:25 from Jenny Bush (Kennebunk, Maine / Kennebunk), which it was assisted by Quincy Wilkins (Wilbraham, Mass. / Minnechaug).
Junior Erin Gildea (Boca Raton, Fla. / Pope John Paul II) scored the second goal for the Hounds with a free position attempt at 8:32 to make it 9-2. Jen McDonald (Walpole, Mass. / Walpole) followed with a goal just 43 seconds later, getting the assist from Sarah Reilly (Fairfield, Conn. / Fairfield-Warde). The Dolphins added one goal in the last six minutes for the 10-3 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Le Moyne outshot the Hounds 32-16 on the day, but went just 1-for-6 on free position attempts. The Dolphins did force Assumption into 14 turnovers and held a slight edge in ground balls as well (16-14).
- Bush scored on of the team's three goals and added two draw controls while Tori Russo (South Windsor, Conn. / South Windsor) picked up six ground balls and had a caused turnover. Callie Dwyer (Merrimack, N.H. / Merrimack) and Gabrielle Morris (Londonderry, N.H. / Londonderry) chipped in two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
- Graveline did a bit of everything for Le Moyne with three goals, six ground balls and three caused turnovers.
- Jaclyn Chirco (Hopkinton, Mass. / Hopkinton) took the loss in net but player tough, making 13 saves while allowing ten goals. Hannah George secure the win by making nine saves and giving up three goals.
