- The Lead: Assumption jumped out to a 9-1 lead 18 minutes into the contest and eventually extended its lead to 19-5 in the second half on the way to a 21-7 conference victory over Saint Michael's on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Junior Sarah Reilly (Fairfield, Conn. / Fairfield-Warde) opened up the scoring for the Hounds six minutes into the game off a Caitlin Graves (Ashland, Mass. / Ashland) feed. Amanda Burns (Billerica, Mass. / Billerica Memorial) followed with consecutive goals in a 90-second span before the Purple Knights scored to trail just 3-1 ten minutes into the contest.
- Morgan Cushing (Gorham, Maine / Gorham) started a 6-0 scoring run for the Hounds with her goal at 19:32, and Graves eventually pushed it to 9-1 on consecutive goals with over 12 minutes left. Saint Michael's answered with a pair of goals, but Assumption ended the half on a 6-2 run for a 15-5 advantage at the half.
- Burns started the third with a goal to make it 16-5 at 26:32, before goals from Meghan Cushing (Gorham, Maine / Gorham) and Callie Dwyer (Merrimack, N.H. / Merrimack) extended the lead to 13 with 21:43 remaining. Jenny Bush (Kennebunk, Maine / Kennebunk), Reilly and Burns each added goals in the final 16 minutes while the Purple Knights scored twice for the 21-7 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Assumption outshot Saint Michael's 36-14 in the contest and won 21 of 29 draw controls while recording 12 caused turnovers. The Hounds also picked up four more ground balls (21-17).
- Burns scored a team-high six goals on just eight shots to go along with five draws and two ground balls. Reilly came through with seven points on three goals and four assists while Graves supplied four goals and one assist. Bush had two goals and a team-high nine draws, as Kailyn Hart (Cohoes, N.Y. / Shaker) chipped in two goals, one assist and four ground balls.
- Kyra Goucher (Derry, N.H. / Pinkerton Academy) earned the win in net for Assumption as she made five saves while allowing seven goals. Alexis Bower took the loss as she gave up 15 goals with ten stops. Kealy Moyna had two goals and one assist to lead Saint Michael's.
