- The Lead: The Assumption College men's tennis team beat Saint Anselm 6-3 on Saturday afternoon behind a 2-0 effort from four different players, to earn their first NE10 Conference win of the 2018 season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In doubles play the Hounds claimed a 2-1 lead over the Hawks. No. 1 duo Ryan Foster (Bloomfield, Conn. / Classical Magnet) and Reb Mariano (New London, Conn. / Saint Andrew's School) won 8-3 while No. 2 pair Danny Waung (Bolton, Conn. / East Catholic) and freshman Max Francis (West Barnstable, Mass. / Barnstable) beat their competition 8-5. At No. 3 doubles, Jameson Keppeler(Syracuse, N.Y. / CBA Syracuse) and Luke Whitehouse (Hopkinton, Mass. / Hopkinton) fell 9-7 to Daniel Kmetz and Benji Page.
- To start singles play Foster took a 6-1,6-0 victory over Saint Anselm No. 1 Eric Howes while Francis beat Adam Weinstein 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. Waung followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles, and Mariano took down Kmetz to own the 4-0 lead in singles play. The Hawks took No. 5 and No. 6 singles to end the match 6-3 in favor of Assumption.
