-The Lead: The Assumption College men's basketball team fell to the Skyhawks of Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference action on the road on Saturday afternoon. The hosts outscored the Hounds 41-26 in the first half before being edged 38-37 in the second, as Stonehill took home the 78-64 final victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Hounds took a 10-6 lead with a made jumper by first year Isiah Gaiter (Meriden, Conn. / Sacred Heart High School / Huntington Prep) and a pair of free-throws by red-shirt junior Jordan White (Prince Frederick, Md. / Clinton Christian School), with just over five minutes off the clock.
-The Skyhawks used a 13-point run to pull ahead by 12 with 7:54 on the clock, 25-13. Sophomore Andrew Sims hit a pair of jumpers in the run while junior Owen de Graaf hit a basket from behind the arc.
-Stonehill edged Assumption in scoring 11-7 in the final six minutes of the half to take a 41-26 lead into the halftime break.
-Stonehill pulled ahead by 21 when senior Brandon Twitty hit a jumper at the 14:32 mark, 55-34. Assumption used six points from junior Matthew Kelly (North Potomac, Md. / Quince Orchard) over the next four minutes to climb within 16 of the hosts, 57-41.
-The Hounds outscored the Skyhawks 38-37 in the second half, led by White who put up nine points in the final 20 minutes.
-Junior Owen Chose put up 10 points in the second half to lead Stonehill to the final 78-64 victory.
INISDE THE NUMBERS
-White led the Hounds with 13 points and eight rebounds. Kelly finished the night with 13 points and Gaiter rounded out double-digit scoring with 12 points for the visitors.
-Senior Will Moreton led Stonehill with a double-double as he put up 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the victory. Chose also put up 14 points for the hosts and finished the night with nine rebounds. Twitty and Graaf each added 12 points and Sims rounded out double-digit scoring with 11 points for the Skyhawks.
-Assumption shot 37.3% (22-for-59) from the field and went 6-for-29 from three-point range. Stonehill shot 49.1% (28-for-57) from field goal range while going 11-for-21 from beyond the arc.
-The Skyhawks outrebounded the Hounds 40-30.
