Women's Lacrosse Soars to Victory Over Owls

THE BASICS

-The Lead: The Assumption College women's lacrosse team ran away with a 19-6 Northeat-10 Conference victory over the Owls of Southern Connecticut State University on Wednesday evening at home. Graduate student Kailyn Hart (Cohoes, N.Y. / Shaker) netted six goals to lead the Hounds to victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Assumption scored first when they won the first draw of the game and senior Emily Spath (Franklin, Mass. / Franklin) found fist year Jenna Joseph (Longmeadow, Mass. / Longmeadow) for a goal just under a minute into play.

-Southern Connecticut put in back-to-back goals at the 24:36 and 23:09 mark to take a 2-1 lead. Sophomores Karlie Row and Mia Pulisciano netted the two for the Owls.

-Assumption went on to outscore Southern Connecticut 11-3 with four goals from Hart for the 12-5 advantage at the halftime break. The Owls won 10 of 18 draw controls in the first half.

-The Hounds held Southern Connecticut to just one goal in the second half and put in seven more to claim the final 19-6 victory. Hart came out with back-to-back goals in the first two minutes of the second half.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

-Assumption outshot the Owls 29-22.  The Hounds won 11 draw controls while Southern Connecticut won 16. Assumption finished with a combined 20 groundballs and the Owls picked up 12.

-Hart scored six goals and assisted on one while Spath finished with three goals and five assists to lead the Hounds. Joseph finished with three goals in the victory.

-Bayleigh Takacs and Pulisciano put in two goals each for the Owls.

-Assumption went 12-for-14 in clear attempts while Southern Connecticut went 9-for-15.

-Sophomore goalkeeper, Allie Collins (Natick, Mass. / Natick) improved to 2-0 on the season as she made 11 saves in net for the Hounds.

-Junior Laura Morton made nine saves in net for the Owls and drops to an even 2-2 on the season.
