-The Lead: The Assumption College women's lacrosse team defeated the Molloy College Lions in non-conference action, at home, on Saturday afternoon. The Hounds held a 5-3 advantage at halftime and held the Lions to just one goal in the second half to claim the 10-4 final victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Assumption scored first, just two minutes into play when junior Olivia Angelo (Miller Place, N.Y. / Miller Place) found her classmate Helen Tautkus (Laconia, N.H. / Laconia), who put it by Molloy goalkeeper, Allie Long, for the 1-0 lead. The Hounds extended their lead to 2-0 when Angelo put in an unassisted goal just under the 27-minute mark.
-Molloy got on the board when senior Amanda Reyes found room in front of the net with 20:13 on the clock.
-The Hounds extended their lead to three with goals by senior Emily Spath (Franklin, Mass. / Franklin) and junior Allison Foley (Walpole, Mass. / Walpole), but the visitors responded with two goals of their own to trail by one with 3:45 to go in the first half.
-Foley scored on a free-position shot before time expired to give Assumption the 5-3 edge heading into the halftime break.
-The Hounds held Molloy to just one goal in the second half and put up five more to claim the 10-4 final victory. Foley had a goal and two assists in the second half while Angelo, Spath, Kailyn Hart (Cohoes, N.Y. / Shaker) and Haley Rose (Wading River, N.Y. / Shoreham Wading River) put in the other four goals.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Sophomore Allie Collins (Natick, Mass. / Natick) made an impressive ten saves in net for Assumption and improves to 3-0 on the season.
-Allie Long made 13 saves for Molloy and falls to 2-3 on the season.
-Foley led the Assumption on offense with three goals and two assists in the victory. Angelo finished with two goals and an assist for the Hounds.
-Reyes scored two goals for Molloy.
-The Hounds outshot the Lions 28-20.
-Molloy won nine of 16 draw controls.
-Assumption finished with 18 caused turnovers. Junior Marran Oakman (Kennebunk, Maine / Kennebunk) and first year Allison Marshall (Strafford, N.H. / Oyster River) finished with five each.
-The hosts picked up 31 ground balls while Molloy scooped up 19.
-Assumption was 20-for-22 in clear attempts.
