-The Lead: The Assumption University women's volleyball team ran away with a 3-0 sweep over the Setters of Pace University on Friday evening in Laska Gymnasium. The Greyhounds took down Pace by set scores of 25-16, 25-13, and 25-12.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The first set was the closest, with the Greyhounds still taking the nine-point victory. Assumption took an early 10-2 lead, highlighted by an eight-point run with three aces by first year Alexis Distasio (Windermere, Fla. / Dr. Phillips) and three kills by her classmate Anna Dean (Monroe, Mich. / St. Mary Catholic Central). The hosts used another four-point rally to pull ahead by 11 points (14-3). The Setters used five points in a row of their own to pull back within six (21-15). Sophomore Madisen Lupica put up two kills in the rally. Assumption finished the set on a 4-1 run to claim the final 25-16 victory.
-After trading the first few points of the second set, Assumption used a 10-1 rally to pull ahead 14-6. First year Carly Goodhue (Danvers, Mass. / Danvers) put up three kills in the run. The Setters came within six (17-11), but that is as close as they would come as the Greyhounds finished the set on an 8-2 run to capture the 25-13 final and pull ahead 2-0 in the match.
-The Greyhounds took an easy 25-12 victory over the Setters in the third match. They only allowed four early points, taking a 19-4 advantage. Ruthie Ridderhoff (Chandler, AZ / W.T. Woodson) had three kills in the run. The Setters pulled within 10 (22-12) before the Greyhounds sealed the deal with three unanswered points for the 25-12 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Goodhue led the Greyhounds with nine kills, followed by Dean with eight kills. Junior Kyra Belden (Hollis, N.H. / Hollis-Brookline High School) dished out 28 assists and two blocks while first year Barbara Illig (Delaware, OH / Bishop Ready) led the Hounds with 22 digs.
-Lupica led Pace with six kills. Stephanie Sicilian added nine assists and Jamie Bittiger added six digs in the setback.
-Assumption finished with 36 kills and 10 blocks while the Setters totaled 19 kills and three blocks.

-The Greyhounds are back in action on Tuesday, October 26th when they travel to Saint Anselm for an NE10 contest at 7:00 p.m.
