-The Lead: The Assumption University women's lacrosse team earned their second straight victory of the season with an 8-5 final at Bentley on Monday afternoon. The Greyhounds were led by senior Allison Foley (Walpole, Mass. / Walpole) who had four goals in the win. The Greyhounds have won two out of the last three meetings with the Falcons, edging them just 10-9 in the 2018-19 season
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Greyhounds outscored the Falcons, 5-3 over the first 30 minutes of play.
-Assumption got on the scoreboard first with an unassisted goal by sophomore Jenna Joseph (Longmeadow, Mass. / Longmeadow) just over five minutes into play. The Hounds extended their lead with two more goals at the 22- and 21-minute marks respectively. Foley found her way to the net with an unassisted tally for the 2-0 lead, and less than a minute later sophomore Allison Marshall (Strafford, N.H. / Oyster River) found her classmate Isabella Jackson (Medway, Mass. / Medway) who found the back of the net for the 3-0 advantage with 21:13 to go in the first half.
-Bentley broke down Assumption's run with a solo goal by first year Courtney Dermody with 17:26 on the clock to come within two, 3-1.
-Assumption extended their lead to four with back-to-back goals by Jackson and first year Olivia Catanzarite (East Longmeadow, Mass. / East Longmeadow), halfway through the first (5-1).
-The Falcons cut their deficit to two before the halftime break. Senior Julia Glavin found space behind Assumption goalkeeper, Allie Collins (Natick, Mass. / Natick), at the 4:10 mark and Dermody put in her second goal of the day off a pass from senior Cara McCarthy less than a minute later (5-3).
-The Greyhounds saw one last bid on offense before the half, but Bentley goalkeeper, graduate student Eliza Bresler came up with a huge save at the buzzer to keep the Falcons within two heading into the break.
-Assumption opened up scoring in the second half when senior Olivia Angelo (Miller Place, N.Y. / Miller Place) dished the ball to Foley for her second goal of the game and the 6-3 lead with 25:47 on the clock.
-After 10 scoreless minutes, the Greyhounds extended their lead back to four as Joseph found Foley open for her third goal of the game with 15:39 to go (7-3).
-Bentley broke their second-half silence with a goal by Christine Fish that was assisted by Glenna Gies at the 8:47 mark (7-4).
-Foley put in her fourth and final goal of the game on a pass from Catanzarite with just 3:25 to play (8-4).
-The Falcons never let up, with a goal by Kenzie Lupton with under two minutes on the clock, but Assumption's defense held strong for the final 8-5 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Foley led the Hounds with four goals while Jackson netted her two shots of the day to lift Assumption to victory. Seniors Grace McDermott (Franklin, Mass. / Franklin) and Haley Rose (Wading River, N.Y. / Shoreham Wading River), along with Collins all picked up four ground balls. Junior Lauren Jakobs (Naples, Maine / Lake Region) racked up a team leading three caused turnovers for the Hounds.
-Dermody netted two goals for the Falcons and her teammate Sandrine Heller led the team with four ground balls. Bresler also picked up four ground balls in net for Bentley.
-Collins made an impressive 10 saves in goal for Assumption and improves to 2-0 on the season.
-Bresler made 17 stops in net for Bentley and falls to 2-1 on the season.
-Assumption outshot Bentley 28-21 and 25-15 for shots on goal.
-The Hounds finished the day with 26 ground balls while the Falcons scooped up 23.
-Bentley had 12 caused turnovers and Assumption finished with nine.
-Assumption won three draw controls while Bentley secured nine.
