-The Lead: The Assumption University women's lacrosse team dominated in Northeast-10 Conference action over the Penmen of Southern N.H. on Wednesday evening. The Hounds outscored SNHU 9-3 in the first half and held them to just two goals in the second half to secure the final 16-5 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Hounds started things off with a 4-0 run to secure an early lead. First year, Olivia Catanzarite (East Longmeadow, Mass. / East Longmeadow) scored back-to-back goals in the opening two minutes of the game to give Assumption the 2-0 advantage. Senior Allison Foley (Walpole, Mass. / Walpole) tallied her first goal of the game at the 25:22 mark and junior Jill Good (North Andover, Mass. / North Andover) found room at the back of the net off a free-position shot for the 4-0 lead.
-SNHU broke Assumption's run with a solo attack by Angelina Graziano with 20:14 on the clock.
-The Hounds went on to score five more goals in a row to take a solid eight-point lead with 5:19 to go in the first half (9-1). Sophomore Jenna Joseph (Longmeadow, Mass. / Longmeadow) dished the ball to her classmate Allison Marshall (Strafford, N.H. / Oyster River) on the run, and Marshall fired away for the 5-1 lead. Catanzarite tallied her third goal of the game, unassisted. Foley picked up a ground ball and scooped it behind Saint Anselm goalkeeper, Caela McCartney, for the 7-1 advantage. Catanzarite posted her fourth and final goal of the half with 9:20 on the clock and junior Lauren Jakobs (Naples, Maine / Lake Region) tacked one on for the eight-point lead (9-1).
-Shelby Cole put in the final two goals of the half as she brought the Penmen within six heading into the halftime break (9-3).
-Foley kicked off scoring in the second half as she picked off a deflection in front of the net just five minutes in. She added her fourth goal of the game just under two minutes later as she dodged her way towards the net and found room behind McCartney for the 11-3 lead.
-Southern N.H. netted their first goal of the second half at the 21:11 mark as Skyler Renaud helped herself through the Assumption defense.
-The Hounds outscored the Penmen 5-1 over the final 20 minutes to take home the 16-5 final victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Eight different Hounds put up goals in the victory. Catanzarite led the attack with five goals while Foley followed with four and one assist. Joseph tallied three assists and Catanzarite posted two caused turnovers for Assumption.
-Cole led SNHU on offense with two goals and Graziano finished the night with one goal and one assist.
-Junior Allie Collins (Natick, Mass. / Natick) improved to 3-0 on the season with seven saves in net for Assumption.
-McCartney falls to 1-3 as she made 10 stops in goal for the visitors.
-Assumption outshot SNHU 41-19.
-The Hounds won 13 draw controls while the Penmen won 10.
-Assumption picked up 35 groundballs and SNHU tallied 25.
