-The Lead: The Assumption University women's lacrosse team dropped to the Falcons of Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference action at home on Saturday afternoon. Bentley outscored Assumption 7-4 in the first half and the two teams each netted three goals in the second half as the Falcons took home the 10-7 final.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Bentley kicked off scoring with a free position shot by senior Julia Glavin four minutes into play. The Falcons added another goal just two minutes later with an unassisted tally by first year Courtney Dermody (2-0).
-Junior Jill Good (North Andover, Mass. / North Andover) put the Hounds on the board with a quick move to the net after senior Marran Oakman (Kennebunk, Maine / Kennebunk) won the draw control for Assumption at the 23:51 mark (2-1).
-Glavin put in another free position shot to put Bentley back up by two. Assumption responded at the 17:34 mark when Good found senior Olivia Angelo (Miller Place, N.Y. / Miller Place) open in front of the net (3-2).
-First year Caroline Affolter tallied back-to-back goals to give Bentley the 5-2 advantage with 14:27 to go in the first half. The Hounds responded with two goals of their own; one from junior Lauren Jakobs (Naples, Maine / Lake Region) on a free position shot and one from Jenna Joseph (Longmeadow, Mass. / Longmeadow) on a rebound, to pull back within one (5-4).
-Glavin notched her third free position shot and Dermody wrapped up scoring in the first half with a man-up goal for the Falcons, as the visitors took the 7-4 lead into the halftime break.
-Assumption scored first in the second half. Good cranked a shot that hit the post and was scooped up by senior Allison Foley (Walpole, Mass. / Walpole) who found the back of the net to bring Assumption within two (7-5).
-The Hounds pulled within one at the 17:16 mark (8-7), but Bentley finished the game with two unanswered goals to secure the 10-7 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Good led Assumption on offense with two goals and one assist. Jakobs added two goals in the setback for the Hounds.
-Glavin led Bentley with three goals and two assists in the victory. Dermody added three goals.
-Junior Allie Collins (Natick, Mass, / Natick) made nine saves in net for Assumption. She falls to 3-2 overall this season.
-Graduate student Eliza Bresler stopped 11 shots for the Falcons and improves to 4-1 on the year.
-Assumption and Bentley put up 23 shots each.
-Bentley won 10 draw controls while Assumption won nine.
-The Falcons went 3-for-5 at free position shots while Assumption finished 2-for-5
