-The Lead: The Assumption University women's lacrosse team used 10 first half goals to secure a 16-4 victory over the Purple Knights of Saint Michael's College on Saturday afternoon. Prior to the game the Hounds recognized their six graduating seniors for senior day: Olivia Angelo (Miller Place, N.Y. / Miller Place), Emily Burton (Bedford, N.H. / Bedford), Allison Foley (Walpole, Mass. / Walpole), Grace McDermott (Franklin, Mass. / Franklin), Marran Oakman (Kennebunk, Maine / Kennebunk), and Haley Rose (Wading River, N.Y. / Shoreham Wading River).
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Purple Knights scored first with a free-position shot goal by freshman Darby Rich just over three minutes into play. The Hounds went on to put up 10 unanswered goals to take a 10-1 lead into the halftime break. Angelo started scoring for Assumption with a goal at the 26:04 mark. After Oakman won the draw, junior Jill Good (North Andover, Mass. / North Andover) put in Assumption's second goal just a minute later. Foley and first year Olivia Catanzarite (East Longmeadow, Mass. / East Longmeadow) added two goals each in the run for Assumption.
-Sophomore Jenna Joseph (Longmeadow, Mass. / Longmeadow) extended the Greyhounds' lead to 11 at the start of the second half and Catanzarite netted her third goal of the game at the 23:29 mark to give Assumption the 12-1 lead.
-The Purple Knights put their second goal on the board with a tally by junior Hannah Bishop at the 21:13 mark and just two minutes later, cut their deficit to nine with a goal by junior Jane Leys (12-3). The Hounds outscored Saint Michael's 4-1 over the final 15 minutes to take the final 16-4 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Foley and Catanzarite led the Hounds with four goals each and both added an assist in the victory. Junior Allie Collins (Natick, Mass. / Natick) made four saves in net for Assumption and improves to 4-2 on the season.
-First year Hope Msumba made two saves for Saint Michael's and falls to 0-1 on the season. Senior Lucy Chin made three saves in net in 30 minutes of play.
-Assumption outshot Saint Michael's 26-18. The Hounds put 21 shots on goal while the Purple Knights put eight shots on net.
-The Hounds won 12 draw controls while Saint Michael's won nine.
