WORCESTER, Mass. - The Assumption University women's rowing team captured a first place finish on Saturday morning at Lake Quinsigamond. The Hounds took on Johnson & Wales in the Varsity 8 race and finished in first place while the Varsity Four boat placed second in a race with Mass Maritime.
Assumption earned first place in the Varsity 8 race, finishing in a time of 7:57.3. Johnson & Wales crossed the finish line in a time of 8:27.9. Mass Maritime earned first place in the Varsity Four race in a time of 9:14.0 while Assumption finished in 10:04.5
"It was a cold and windy day but both boats went out and rowed their race working on improvements from last week," said head coach Aline Gumula. "With such a short time on the water in the spring to get ready for racing we are limited as to what we can focus on each day. We saw some improvements from last weekend to this weekend and we now have a few final things we plan to work on to get ready for our final race of the spring next Saturday against Franklin Pierce."
