-The Lead: The Assumption University women's lacrosse team defeated the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University in Northeast-10 Conference action on Sunday afternoon. The two teams were tied at the half, 6-6, before the Hounds outscored the Ravens 7-4 in the second half for the 13-10 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Hounds got on the board after winning the opening draw of the game. Sophomore Jenna Joseph (Longmeadow, Mass. / Longmeadow) dished the ball to junior Jill Good (North Andover, Mass. / North Andover) who found the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. Franklin Pierce responded under a minute later with a goal by junior Morgan Baxendale (1-1).
-The Ravens took the lead on a goal by junior Savannah Ernst at the 22:44 mark, but Assumption responded with back-to-back goals by senior Allison Foley (Walpole, Mass. / Walpole) to pull ahead 3-2 with just over 20 minutes to play in the first. Foley's first goal was assisted by junior Lauren Jakobs (Naples, Maine / Lake Region) and the second was on a free position shot.
-The Hounds used two more goals by Jakobs in the run to pull ahead by three with 11:24 to go in the first (5-2).
-The Ravens rallied with four goals over the next eight minutes to pull ahead 6-5 with 2:27 on the clock. Assumption used a last-second goal by first year Olivia Catanzarite (East Longmeadow, Mass. / East Longmeadow) to tie the game 6-6 heading into the halftime break.
-Cantanzarite opened the second half with her second goal of the game, and 24th of the season, for the 7-6 edge. The Hounds went on a four-goal run, including goals by Foley, senior Olivia Angelo (Miller Place, N.Y. / Miller Place), and another from Catanzarite to pull ahead 10-6 with 25:30 on the clock.
-The Ravens and Hounds traded goals over the next five minutes. Franklin Pierce pulled within two with back-to-back goals at the 14:57 and 14:19 mark, 11-9. Assumption outscored the Ravens 2-1 over the final seven minutes to claim the 13-10 final victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Foley led the Hounds to victory with five goals and one assist. Catanzarite netted three goals in the win.
-Ernst led Franklin Pierce on offense with five goals in the setback.
-Junior Allie Collins (Natick, Mass. / Natick) improves to 7-2 in net for Assumption as she made an impressive 12 stops in the victory.
-Senior Casey Butera made eight saves in net for Franklin Pierce and falls to 2-0 on the season.
-The Ravens outshot Assumption 34-27 (22-21 shots on goal).
-Franklin Pierce picked up 17 ground balls to Assumption's 13.
-The Hounds won 13 draw controls while the hosts won 11.
-Assumption finished 3-for-5 on free position shots while Franklin Pierce went 0-for-6.
