-The Lead: The Assumption University women's lacrosse team fell to the Ravens of Franklin Pierce in their final game of the regular season on Wednesday afternoon. The Ravens outscored the Hounds 6-4 in the first half, and that made all the difference as each team netted five goals in the final 30 minutes.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Franklin Pierce got on the board first with an early goal by junior Savannah Ernst, assisted by sophomore Gabby Oswald. Junior Jill Good (North Andover, Mass. / North Andover) netted back-to-back goals to give Assumption a 2-1 edge at the 22:53 mark. The Ravens tied the game when junior Morgan Baxendale found her classmate Kailtyn Daly open for the score at the 19:22 mark.
-The two teams traded goals at the 12-minute mark and the 11:11 mark. Good found the back of the net for her third goal of the game to give Assumption the 3-2 lead, before senior Caroline Lounsbury tied the game with a goal under a minute later (3-3). The Ravens extended their run to four goals to take a 6-3 advantage with 5:10 on the clock.
-Sophomore Claire Desilva (Massapequa Park, N.Y. / Massapequa) dished the ball to her classmate Isabella Jackson (Medway, Mass. / Medway) cutting through the middle to end the Raven's run and bring them within two heading into the halftime break, 6-4.
-Franklin Pierce opened up the second half on another four-goal run to pull ahead 10-4 with 23:34 on the clock. Ernst tallied two goals in the run. Senior Allison Foley (Walpole, Mass. / Walpole) ended the rally with a man-up goal at the 23:18 mark, bringing Assumption within five, 10-5.
-The Hounds came within three when first year Olivia Catanzarite (East Longmeadow, Mass. / East Longmeadow) rolled around the right post and fired a shot to the back of the net at the 10:13 mark (11-8). After a scoreless five minutes, Foley found the back of the net to bring Assumption within two, but the Franklin Pierce defense held strong to secure the 11-9 final victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Good led Assumption on offense with three goals. Sophomore Jenna Joseph (Longmeadow, Mass. / Longmeadow) added one goal and two assists in the setback for the Hounds.
-Ernst led Franklin Pierce with five goals in the victory. Daly added three goals and Oswald added three assists on the day.
-Junior Allie Collins (Natick, Mass. / Natick) made 11 saves in net for Assumption and falls to 6-3 on the season.
-Senior Casey Butera made a game-changing 16 saves for Franklin Pierce and improves to 2-1 on the season.
-Both teams recorded 33 shots in the game. Assumption tallied 25 shots on goal while the Ravens posted 22 shots on goal.
-Assumption picked up 25 ground balls to the Raven's 19.
