-The Lead: The Assumption University volleyball team split in a trimatch with Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) and Stonehill on Saturday afternoon. The Hounds defeated the Penmen, 3-1 in the first match of the day before falling to Stonehill 3-0 in match two.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Match 1: Assumption 3, SNHU 1

-Assumption earned the victory over the Penmen in four sets. They took the first set by a scored of 25-19 before falling to SNHU 25-18 in the second set. The Hounds closed out the match with scores of 25-19 and 25-17 for the 3-1 final victory.

-First year Alexis Distasio (Windermere, Fla. / Dr. Phillips) led Assumption with 14 kills to go along with 16 digs. Her classmate Carly Goodhue (Danvers, Mass. / Danvers) added 12 kills in the win. Junior Kyra Belden (Hollis, N.H. / Hollis-Brookline High School) dished out a match-high 40 assists and four service aces. First year Barbara Illig (Delaware, OH / Bishop Ready) led the Hounds with 18 digs.

-Junior Dai Thawnghmung led SNHU with 16 digs and her classmate Julia Pacini followed with 14 kills and 14 digs. Graduate student Sara Montefameglio added 39 assists and 12 digs for the Penmen while first year Deanna Wilson led the team with 19 digs.

-Both teams finished the match with 47 kills.

-Assumption posted 77 digs to SNHU's 75.

-The Hounds and Penmen finished with eight service aces each.

-Assumption posted 46 assists while SNHU put up 44.

Match 2: Stonehill 3, Assumption 0

-The Skyhawks swept Assumption in three sets. The Hounds came the closest in the first set, falling by just six, 25-19. They fell 25-18 in set two and 25-17 in set three.

-Goodhue led the Hounds in match two with eight kills while Stonehill held Distasio to seven kills. Belden finished the match with 22 assists and sophomore Brandi Montoya (Aurora, Colo. / Cherry Creek) led the team with 13 digs.

-Senior Abbey Remick led the Skyhawks to victory with 13 kills while sophomore Lauren McCloskey dished out 21 assists. Senior Carly Russell led all players with 21 digs.

-Stonehill finished the match with 41 kills to Assumption's 25.

-The Skyhawks posted 41 digs while the Hounds put up 46 digs.

-Stonehill added 38 assists to Assumption's 25.
