-The Lead: The Assumption University volleyball team fell to the Hawks of Saint Anselm College in their first home game of the season on Friday evening. The Hounds battled in all three sets, but ultimately fell, 3-0, in the non-conference contest. The Hounds look ahead to a Northeast-10 Conference match-up at Saint Rose on Tuesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Saint Anselm defeated the Greyhounds by 11 points in the first set, 25-14 and took set two by a score of 25-17. Assumption put up their biggest fight in the third set, falling by just five, 25-20.
-First year Alexis Distasio (Windermere, Fla. / Dr. Phillips) led the Hounds with five kills on the night while seniors Laura Herrero (San Juan, Puerto Rico / Academia Maria Reina) and Alana Hruska (Marlborough, Conn. / RHAM) added four kills each. Junior Kyra Belden (Hollis, N.H. / Hollis-Brookline High School) tallied 14 assists for the hosts to go along with one service ace. Alexandra Krawczyk (East Patchogue, N.Y. / Bellport) led Assumption with 12 digs.
-Junior Lauren Casey led Saint Anselm to victory with 10 kills and sophomore Audrey Simmons added seven in the sweep. Junior Michelle Henwood led all players with 20 assists and 15 digs for the visitors. Sophomore Audrey Wetjen posted an impressive five solo blocks for the Hawks.
-Saint Anselm finished the match with 35 kills to Assumption's 17.
-The visitors tallied 42 total digs while the Greyhounds combined for 28.
