-The Lead: The Assumption University women's volleyball team battled to a 3-1 victory over the Golden Knights of Saint Rose College in Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Greyhounds took the early lead after winning the opening set 25-19. Saint Rose edged their way to a victory in set two, 25-23, to tie the match at 1-1. Tied at 8-8 in the third set, Assumption won 10 of the next 15 points to go up 18-13 before proceeding to win the frame, 25-22. The momentum carried into set four for Assumption as the Greyhounds won 14 of the first 18 points. Sophomore Brandi Montoya (Aurora, Colo. / Cherry Creek) put up four aces to help the visitors clinch the match with a 25-11 fourth set victory.
-First year, Alexis Distasio (Windermere, Fla. / Dr. Phillips) led the Greyhounds to victory with 18 kills to go along with 10 digs. Her classmate, Carly Goodhue (Danvers, Mass. / Danvers) added 17 kills and senior Alana Hruska (Marlborough, Conn. / RHAM) put up 11 kills for Assumption. Junior setter, Kyra Belden (Hollis, N.H. / Hollis-Brookline High School) led all players with 54 assists in the victory. Montoya finished the night with five service aces and first year Barbara Illig (Delaware, OH / Bishop Ready) led Assumption with 17 digs.
-First year Juliana Venduro led the Golden Knights with seven kills and her classmate Emma Strefling tallied 13 assists.
-The Greyhounds finished the night with 62 kills to Saint Rose's 31.
-Assumption tallied 52 total digs in the victory while the Golden Knights finished with 45.
