-The Lead: The Assumption University women's volleyball team swept the Purple Knights of Saint Michael's College in a Northeast-10 Conference match on Saturday afternoon. The Greyhounds improve to a 4-3 overall record, and a perfect 2-0 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Assumption took set one and three by scores of 25-17 and won the middle set, 25-13.
-The Greyhounds led by as many as 13 points in the first set and claimed the final eight-point victory, 25-17. The hosts took their largest lead of the second match with the 25th, final point, 25-13. The third set was closely contested through the first few points, but the Greyhounds pulled away with a four-point rally to pull ahead 22-14, before clinching the match with the 25-17 final.
-First year Alexis Distasio (Windermere, Fla. / Dr. Phillips) led the Hounds with 10 kills and junior Kyra Belden (Hollis, N.H. / Hollis-Brookline High School) added a team-leading 18 assists. Sophomore Malia Shields (Brockton, Mass. / Brockton) tallied 15 digs.
-Senior Abby Gallagher led Saint Michael's with eight kills and 10 digs while sophomore Cailtin O'Connor put up seven kills. First year Alexandra Baez Rentas led the visitors with 15 assists.
-Assumption finished the match with 34 kills while Saint Michael's put up 26.
-The Hounds edged the visitors 44-40 in digs and 31-25 in total assists.
