-The Lead: The Assumption University women's volleyball team battled their way to a 3-0 sweep over the Dolphins of Le Moyne College in Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday night. The win lifts the Greyhounds to a perfect 3-0 in conference play to start the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Greyhounds earned their largest victory of the night in the first set, 25-17 and took the final two sets by scores of 25-22.
-Assumption used a seven-point rally in the first set to pull ahead 20-10 and never looked back, claiming the 25-17 final for the 1-0 lead in the match.
-The Hounds took an early 10-5 lead in the second set, but the Dolphins used a 4-1 rally later in the set to take a 19-16 lead. Assumption outscored them 9-3 to claim the 25-22 victory in set two.
-Assumption led for most of the third set before Le Moyne pulled away 21-19 on a kill by Madelein Kennedy. The Hounds went on a 6-1 rally as senior Alexandra Krawczyk (East Patchogue, N.Y. / Bellport) closed out the match with a pair of service aces for the final 25-22 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Senior Alana Hruska (Marlborough, Conn. / RHAM) led Assumption with 11 kills and first year Anna Dean (Monroe, Mich. / St. Mary Catholic Central) added 10 in the victory.
-First year Barbara Illig (Delaware, OH / Bishop Ready) recorded a game-leading 26 digs and junior Kyra Belden (Hollis, N.H. / Hollis-Brookline High School) led all players with 40 assists to lift Assumption to victory.
-Madeleine Kennedy led Le Moyne with 11 kills, Isabella Leslie tallied 14 digs and Emily Yancone dished out 24 assists for the visitors.
