Assumption was riding high into their matchup vs. Bentley, relying on their defense and their run game to continue to push them through the season. Despite keeping the game close for the entire way, they fell short after an interception in the last two minutes for Bentley to put the game away. The only points the Greyhounds scored on the day was a field goal from Nick Chodak about 41 yards out with 4:59 left in the 4th quarter. It's a perfect bounce-back opportunity on Saturday against the Yellow Jackets, who are still searching for their first conference win. After this upcoming matchup, the Greyhounds return home to host the reigning NE10 champions in the University of New Haven.
The Greyhounds are 9-15 all-time against the Yellow Jackets. They're currently on a six-game winning streak from 2015 to last year. They've been 4-8 at home and 5-7 on the road vs. American International. Last year, the Greyhounds won 42-21 at Brian Kelly 83' Stadium. Easton Turner threw for 125 yards and one touchdown to Kyle Sonnie, which was his one catch on the day. Tighe Beck was the leading receiver with four catches for 39 yards. As he did almost every game last season, Khaleed Exum-Strong led the backfield. He rushed for 110 yards and three touchdowns to carry the workload for Assumption.
In 2021, the Yellow Jackets went 4-6 overall and 2-6 in the conference. They beat Franklin Pierce 38-19 on the road for their first win and closed the season with a victory vs. Pace University at home, 14-7. They went on a six-game losing streak in the conference, dropping games to Bentley, Southern Connecticut State, Stonehill, New Haven, Assumption, and Saint Anselm.
