Callahan Pushes Women's Basketball Winning-Streak to 4-0

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Assumption University women's basketball team continues to stay hot to begin the 2022-23 campaign, picking up a 76-58 win at American International College Tuesday evening.
 
THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption would run out to an early 9-2 lead Ja'lyn Armstrong scored back-to-back fast break layups to give the Greyhounds an early seven-point advantage. AIC responded with a nine-straight point run to snag an 11-9 advantage, but a jumper from Amanda Mieczkowski, with 42 seconds left in the first, gave the visitors a 14-13 lead after one.
The Greyhounds slowly expanded their lead, as a layup from Kaijhe Hall with 4:54 remaining in the second pushed the AU advantage to nine points (32-23). The Yellow Jackets would slowly cut into the deficit, as Assumption would head into halftime up 36-31.
Coming out of the break, AIC would carry the momentum they established at the end of the first half and regain a lead at the 7:29 mark (39-38). The host's lead would not last long, as the Greyhounds rallied and took a three-point advantage into the fourth (53-50).
The fourth quarter was all Assumption, as the Hounds shot 64.2 percent from the field while holding AIC to just 20.0 percent to outscore the hosts 23-8 in the final ten minutes.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Marina Callahan had a near double-double, as she recorded a game-high 19 points to go along with nine rebounds.
  • The Greyhounds shot 50.0 percent as a team throughout the game, as well as 33.3 percent from beyond the arc
  • The Blue and White dominated the paint, outscoring the Yellow Jackets 36-18 while also outrebounding them 41-22.
  • Assumption is 4-0 to being a season for the first time since the 2012-13 campaign, where they began 7-0.
