No. 12 Women's Basketball Swims Past Le Moyne, 69-56

WORCESTER, Mass – The No. 12 Assumption University women's basketball team continues to roll, as the Greyhounds edged Le Moyne College in Northeast-10 Conference action Sunday afternoon, 69-56, to remain undefeated on the young season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption controlled the game from the opening tip, as they scored on their first two shots of the contest. Le Moyne had a mini-run, as they got within two (7-5) just past the halfway mark of the first, but a 13-2 run to close out the opening frame by the Greyhounds put the score at 20-7 after 10 minutes.
In the second, the Dolphins capitalized on poor shooting from Assumption to close the deficit. The Blue and White shot 38.5 percent from the field, while Le Moyne hit at a 53.8 percent clip as the visitors clawed within five points heading into halftime.
After neither team was able to pull away in the third quarter, as both sides scored 21 points, the Greyhounds showed the Dolphins why they have the top defense in the nation, as they held their opponents to 15.8 percent from the field to pull away down the stretch for a 69-56 win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Molly Stokes led the way with 19 points, while Monia Spain had an 18-point, 11-rebound double-double.
  • Marina Callahan stuffed the stat sheet with three points, seven rebounds, five assists, and five blocks.
  • Teagan Kamm had a near double-double, as the freshman scored nine points to go along with eight boards.
  • The Greyhounds held Le Moyne to an overall shooting percentage of 30.8 percent
  • Assumption forced 20 turnovers and scored 16 points off of those turnovers. 
  • AU has stifled their opposition all season, as they held their opponents to under 38.0 percent from the field in seven of eight games.
  • The Blue and White are 8-0 to begin a season for the first time since the 2011-12 campaign.
