SAINT LEO, Fla. – Junior Jenna Joseph (Longmeadow, Mass.) and sophomore Ella Tenney (Braintree, Mass.) combined to score nine goals in leading the No. 23 Assumption University women's lacrosse team to  19-10 victory over No. 22 Saint Leo at University Stadium on Wednesday evening.

After the teams traded goals early, Assumption (1-1) rattled off five straight goals between the first and second and never looked back. With the Greyhounds trailing 4-3, Joseph started the team's first big run by finishing a pass from defender Haley Rose (Wading River, N.Y.) at the 4:01 mark of the opening quarter with the team competing a player down. Joseph then gave the Greyhounds the lead for the first time by tallying another goal with the team playing down before sophomore Grace Chicko (Londonderry, N.H.) converted a free position attempt to make it 6-4 at the end of the first.

Assumption outscored the Lions by two goals in the second quarter as well. Joseph capped the five-goal run with yet another tally with the Greyhounds playing short, and the visitors found themselves ahead by a 10-6 score at recess.

The Greyhounds turned on the jets in the third quarter by outscoring the Lions, 7-0, during the frame. With the defense being anchored by Rose and Taylor DeGeorge (Feeding Hills, Mass.) keeping the Lion offense in check, the Greyhound offense had five players combine to net seven goals in the 15-minute frame.

Melissa Reeves finally got the Lions back on the board with a free position goal at the 14:11 mark of the fourth quarter, which ended a scoreless streak that lasted nearly 20 minutes dating back to the first half. However, the two big runs by the Greyhounds were just too much for the hosts. Joseph notched her fifth goal of the game on a free position attempt with 5:21 left, and the team ran away with the nine-goal win.

Joseph finished with five goals, two assists, and four ground balls to lead the way for Assumption, which outshot its opponent by a 34-21 margin and had an 18-10 advantage in ground balls. She also won five draws. Tenney found the back of the net four times, while junior Allison Marshall (Strafford, N.H.) picked up three ground balls and caused two turnovers. DeGeorge and Rose finished with a pair of caused turnovers and ground balls, respectively, and senior Allie Collins (Natick, Mass.) made five saves to pick up the win in net.

Saint Leo (1-4) got four goals from Lia Lamendola as well as a goal and two assists apiece from Meghan Bomley and Eliz Fino. Maria Palomba picked up three ground balls and caused two turnovers, while goalie Liz Clark made 10 stops in the losing effort.

Assumption (1-1) will wrap up its Florida trip when it visits Lynn on Saturday at 3:30.
