Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. – Graduate student Alison Foley (Walpole, Mass.) exploded to score a collegiate-best seven goals offensively as the No. 23 Assumption University women's lacrosse team concluded its trip to Florida with a dominating 21-8 victory over Lynn on Saturday afternoon.
The teams traded goals for most of the first quarter before the Greyhound offense broke loose by scoring eight unanswered leading into halftime. Foley scored two straight to break a 2-2 tie and four of the first six during the hot stretch.
Meanwhile, the Greyhound defense kept their opponent off the scoreboard for an entire quarter for the second straight game after accomplishing the feat in the third quarter to pull away against Saint Leo on Wednesday. Graduate student Haley Rose (Wading River, N.Y.) registered the first of several caused turnovers, and senior goalie Allie Collins (Natick, Mass.) made five saves overall and two on free position attempts.
Lynn's Kristyn Johnson and Sydney Hill scored the first two goals of the second half to bring the hosts within six, but that was as close as the Fighting Knights would come. The Greyhounds built their lead up to double digits at 16-6 when senior Jill Good (North Andover, Mass.) found the back of the net with 40 seconds remaining in the third, and freshman Katelynn Johnston (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) scored twice in the waning minutes of regulation to seal an impressive 13-goal win.
In addition to scoring seven goals, Foley also picked up two ground balls and caused two turnovers to lead the way for Assumption. Sophomore Olivia Catanzarite (East Longmeadow, Mass.) won eight draws and scored four goals, while senior Lauren Jakobs (Naples, Maine) and Rose caused two turnovers apiece. Jakobs also netted a hat trick and was among five players to record an assist. Collins made 12 saves to pick up the victory between the posts.
Kristyn Johnson recorded a hat trick and Isabella Clark dished out three assists for Lynn (3-1), which entered the match undefeated. Carolyn Stein anchored the defense with three ground balls and two caused turnovers in the second half alone while patrolling the net and also contributing five saves in relief. Ciara Moorman was charged with the loss despite making seven first-half saves.
Assumption (2-1) will return to New England and next face Mercy in its home opener on Saturday, March 12 at 4 p.m.
