Box Score ALBANY, N.Y. – Junior Jenna Joseph (Longmeadow, Mass.) factored into seven goals in leading the No. 18 Assumption University women's lacrosse team to an 18-10 road victory over the College of Saint Rose on Saturday evening at Sullivan Field. The Greyhounds recorded their second straight victory and fifth in the last six games.
Assumption (8-5, NE10 6-3) never trailed and quicky opened up a 3-1 advantage less than five minutes into the contest. The Greyhounds then took advantage of a pair of Golden Knight yellow cards, as senior Jill Good (North Andover, Mass.) and Joseph then scored back-to-back goals just 45 seconds apart to make it 5-2. After Kaitlyn Jolly sliced the margin down to a pair of goals in the waning minutes of the second, sophomore Olivia Catanzarite (East Longmeadow, Mass.) tacked on an unassisted tally to give the visitors an 8-5 advantage at the break.
Sparked by graduate student Alison Foley, Assumption scored four unanswered goals in the third quarter to begin pulling away. Deanna Ciliento netted two straight to bring Saint Rose within four by the end of the third quarter, but the Greyhounds outscored the hosts by a 5-1 margin in the final frame to run away with the victory. Joseph and Catanzarite each converted a free position shot and collectively had a hand in every goal to headline the offensive attack during the last 15 minutes of action.
Assumption won 20 of the 31 draws, outshot its opponent by a 36-22 margin, and had a 20-19 edge in ground balls. Joseph once again filled the box score by finishing with three goals, four assists, four draw controls, three ground balls, and a caused turnover. Catanzarite and Good each tallied four goals and an assist, while Catanzarite also won seven draws. Defensively, junior Allison Marshall (Strafford, N.H.) picked up four ground balls, senior Cassie Palmisano (Woburn, Mass.) caused two turnovers, and goalie Allie Collins (Natick, Mass.) made eight saves.
Ciliento and Jolly each netted four goals to lead the way for Saint Rose (7-6, NE10 3-6), while Ciliento also tallied six draw controls, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers. Nicole Taveras finished with four ground balls and a caused turnover, and goaltender Dorothy Gaffney stopped 13 Greyhound shots.
Assumption will next visit No. 21 New Haven on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
