No. 18 Women's Lacrosse Clobbers No. 24 Southern New Hampshire On Senior Day

Box Score

WORCESTER, Mass. – Sophomore Olivia Catanzarite (East Longmeadow, Mass.) factored into seven goals to help propel the No. 18 Assumption University women's lacrosse team to a dominating 18-7 victory over No. 24 Southern New Hampshire on Saturday afternoon at Brian Kelly Stadium.

Assumption, which recognized its seven seniors prior to the contest, exploded to score the first 11 goals of the game and never trailed. Senior Lauren Jakobs (Naples, Maine) set off the offensive firestorm by finishing a pass from classmate Jill Good (North Andover, Mass.) at the 9:43 mark before Good netted two consecutive goals to close out the scoring in the quarter with the Greyhounds leading 6-0.

The hosts continued to dominate in the second, as freshman Katelynn Johnston (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) and Catanzarite each converted free position shots in the opening minutes of action. Skylar Renaud finally got the Penmen on the board with 6:34 remaining in the half, but Foley scored on a free position to lift the hosts ahead by nine at 12-3 heading into recess.

With the defense continuing to hold Southern New Hampshire in check, Assumption scored four of the five goals in the third beginning with a strike by junior Jenna Joseph (Longmeadow, Mass.). The junior midfielder then opened the scoring in the fourth quarter to give the Greyhounds their largest lead of the game at 13, which was more than enough insurance to run away with the win.

Catanzarite scored five goals, dished out two assists, and won six draws to lead the way for Assumption, which nearly doubled up its opponent in shot attempts by a 31-16 margin. Good and Jakobs each had a hand in three goals, while Jakobs also caused three turnovers defensively. Senior Allie Collins (Natick, Mass.) picked up the win between the posts by making five saves.

Shelby Cole netted a hat trick to pace Southern New Hampshire (9-4, NE10 7-4) in the lopsided loss. Renaud finished with four ground balls along with four draws, while Marissa Delucia contributed four ground balls and two caused turnovers. The Penmen utilized three goalies, and it was Caela McCartney who was charged with the loss after making just one save and allowing 10 goals in just over 20 minutes of action.

Assumption (9-6, NE10 7-4) will continue to chase a high seed in the upcoming Northeast-10 Conference Tournament when it next visits No. 15 Pace on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.
