No. 10 Le Moyne Uses Late Run To Better No. 18 Women's Lacrosse

Box Score

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The No. 18 Assumption University women's lacrosse team dropped a road game to No. 10 Le Moyne by a 16-9 decision on Saturday afternoon.

Le Moyne (8-3, NE10 5-2) burst out of the gates with two quick goals in the opening 1:11. The Greyhounds, however, got on the board when junior Jenna Joseph (Longmeadow, Mass.) found senior Jill Good (North Andover, Mass.) at 10:54 to kickstart a 4-1 run for the visitors.

Following a free position attempt by graduate student Alison Foley (Walpole, Mass.) in which she elected to pass, sophomore Grace Chicko (Londonderry, N.H.) fired the ball through a wall of Dolphin defenders to give the visitors their first lead at 4-3 in the early stages of the second.

The match stayed close with neither side leading by a goal for the remainder of the half. With the game tied at 5s, Le Moyne had one last chance to score. Jessica Meneilly had an excellent look from just outside the crease in the waning seconds, but Greyhound senior Allie Collins (Natick, Mass.) came up with a big save to keep the teams deadlocked heading into recess.

Le Moyne, which won 11 of the 12 draws in the first half, got off to a hot start in the second by embarking on a 5-1 run. But after Sydney Meagher scored her second goal during the stretch, Foley countered with 1:43 remaining to pull the Greyhounds within three through three quarters of play.

The fourth quarter was a defensive battle to start, as the Dolphins needed a free position shot which was converted by Erin McMullen to pot the first goal for either team in the frame at 9:46. Even though sophomore Olivia Catanzarite (East Longmeadow, Mass.) answered at the 8:10 mark with the Greyhounds competing up a player, the hosts regained control and ended the game on another 5-1 run. Five different players found the back of the net down the stretch to allow the Dolphins to come away with the win.

Meagher scored a game-high four goals to lead the way for Le Moyne, which outshot the Greyhounds by a 32-21 margin and had a 20-8 advantage in draw controls. Gemma Addonizio tallied three goals and two assists, while Erin McMullen won eight draws and also finished with three ground balls, two goals, and one helper. Paige Crandall only needed to make three saves to earn the win in net.

Catanzarite paced Assumption in the losing effort with three goals and three draw controls. Joseph contributed three assists, while sophomore Ella Tenney (Braintree, Mass.) finished with four ground balls, a goal, and a caused turnover. Collins stopped seven Dolphin shots.

Assumption (6-5, NE10 4-3) will return home to next face Franklin Pierce on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.
