Assumption had been 5-0 in their last five meetings against the Warriors from Merrimack, but it was not meant to be this year as a commanding effort from both sides of the ball handed the Greyhounds their first loss of the season in North Andover. Prior to that matchup, Assumption opened their season with a defensive battle against Kutztown, edging out a 3-0 win. Coming up this Saturday, the Greyhounds open up their conference schedule in New York against a very familiar face.
Â
The first time these two teams ever played goes back to 1994 when the Greyhounds took the victory 25-0. As of recently, the Greyhounds have gotten the better of Pace, going on a ten-game win streak against them between 2009 through 2018. Last year, on September 18
th, 2012, Assumption beat the Setters 32-21.
Easton Turner led the Greyhounds with 81 yards passing and two touchdowns. On the ground,
Khaleed Exum-Strong dominated, rushing for 189 yards and two touchdowns.
Jael Feliz had 11 tackles on the defensive side of the ball.
Â
Last year, the Setters had a 2-8 record with a 2-6 record in conference. They only collected wins at Pace Stadium, with an 0-5 record on the road, which did not put them close enough for playoff contention. Their two wins of the year came in an overtime victory vs. Franklin Pierce University and a close battle between Southern Connecticut State University.
