WORCESTER, Mass. – Despite double-doubles from
Alexis Distasio (16 kills, ten digs) and
Anna Dean (12 kills, 14 digs), the Assumption University women's volleyball team's rally came short, as they fell to Southern Connecticut State University in five sets, 3-2, in Northeast-10 action Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The two teams were neck and neck throughout the entirety of the match. Southern Connecticut took an early lead (7-3), but the Greyhounds rallied back to take a 12-10 advantage. The Owls regained the lead and slowly expanded their lead to 24-19, but a late run by Assumption was not enough, as SCSU picked a 25-22 win in the first set.
Both teams continued to trade points in the second set, but Assumption would win three of the final four points to take the set 26-24. Southern Connecticut bounced back with a decisive 25-13 win in the third set.
With their backs against the wall, the Greyhounds refused to quit, as they stayed within two-point for the fourth set. Southern Connecticut pushed the match point (24-21), but Assumption would grab seven of the final nine points (28-26) to push the match to a decisive fifth set.
In the final set, both sides traded runs, but the Owls prevailed following a 4-0 run to clinch the fifth set 15-10.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Alexis Distasio (16) led the way for the Greyhounds in kills, while Carly Goodhue (15) and Anna Dean (12) also had 10+ kills.
- Sophia Noel (24) and Marissa Krawcyzk (20) paced the Blue and White offense, as the duo combined for 44 assists.
- Dean paced the Assumption defense with three solo blocks, while Barbara Illig and Brandi Montoya each had a team-high 23 digs.
- As a team, the Greyhounds had ten service aces. This is the fourth time this season that they had 10+ aces.
