WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University men's ice hockey team fell to Division I Stonehill College, as the Skyhawks scored seven unanswered goals in the 8-2 decision Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Stonehill opened the scoring at the 5:26 mark of the first period as Carter Rapalje found the back of the net. Assumption responded two minutes later, as
William Roberts tied the game, with
William Smith and
Christopher Stalmok recording helpers on the score.
Mike D'Ambrosio gave the Greyhounds a lead heading into the first intermission, as his shot from the point tickled the twine with 38.8 showing on the clock.
The game would remain 2-1 in favor of the hosts for the majority of the second period, but Rapalje struck again, as the freshman tied the game with 3:38 left in the middle frame. Frank Ireland gave Stonehill a 3-2 lead as he scored a shorthanded goal with 1:26 showing on the clock.
In the third period, it was all Stonehill, as the visitors struck five times, making it an 8-2 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Drew Benedict recorded 20 saves in the crease for Assumption.
- The Greyhounds outshot the Owls 37-28 while the teams split the faceoffs 39-39.
- Assumption went 1-for-8 on the man advantage, while Stonehill went 2-for-7.
- The top line (Frank Ireland, Carter Rapalje, and Dean Schwenninger) for the Skyhawks combined for 12 points (five goals and seven assists.
