HOW IT HAPPENED
It was all Assumption from the jump, as they opened on an eight-point scoring run forcing an early timeout from Saint Rose. Molly Stokes ending the session with a buzzer-beating three.
The defense kept Assumption in the game, as they held Saint Rose to 29 percent shooting and 0-for-5 on three-pointers three minutes into the second quarter. The offense started in the latter half, as
Kaijhe Hall had back-to-back layups to increase the lead to double digits. The Greyhound defense held the Golden Knights to 26.9 percent from the field and got to halftime with a 32-21 lead.
The Greyhounds came out with similar energy in the second half, getting to the line and forcing three early fouls from the Golden Knights in the opening four minutes.
Monica Spain and
Marina Callahan buried a pair of free throws to increase the lead up to 15, its most extensive on the day. Kaileigh Hunt quietly was putting together a strong game for the visitors, as she tallied 12 points at the 4:23 mark of the third, leading all scorers. A late push from the Golden Knights made things interesting going into the fourth, as Assumption held onto a 48-38 lead.
The home team brought the energy back in the fourth, as two back-to-back threes at 7:50 from
Amanda Mieczkowski and
Molly Stokes brought the lead back to 16. Not too long later, Stokes buried another to force a timeout at 3:01, giving Assumption their largest lead of the day at 22. Another day at the office for the Greyhounds as their suffocating defense helped quiet the visitors and propelled them to a victory.
