WORCESTER, Mass. – Assumption University had four student-athletes who earned Northeast-10 Conference awards, while five others were named to the Honor Roll mentions announced by the NE10 Conference office on Monday afternoon.
Jaron Wilson picked up the NE10 Special Teams Player of the Week honor as he blocked a 30-yard field goal attempt in the third quarter of Assumption's 21-17 win at Franklin Pierce on Sunday. This increased the Greyhounds total to six blocked kicks this year, tied for fourth most in Division II. Wilson also added four tackles, one pass breakup, one sack, and two tackles for loss in the road win.
Caroline O'Connell earned NE10 Defensive Player of the Week as she continued to headline the top defense in the Northeast-10 Conference after allowing just one goal in two games this past week. Against Franklin Pierce on Tuesday, she recorded a defensive save before helping secure the team's seventh shutout of the year.
Paige Gillette won her first career NE10 Goaltender of the Week honor, as she logged her eighth and ninth win of the year and made two saves against Franklin Pierce in a 6-1 win before recording four against Bentley for her seventh shutout of the year. Gillette leads the Northeast-10 Conference in wins (9), shutouts (7), conference goals-against average (0.22), and conference save percentage (0.917).
Katherine Laboissonniere won the NE10 Defensive Player of the Week award, leading the Assumption defense that allowed 1.00 goals per game in a 1-0-1 week. The Greyhounds surrendered one goal at Queens in the 1-1 tie before allowing one goal on Sunday against New Haven in a 4-1 victory. Against the Chargers, Laboissonniere scored a goal and led the team with three shots on goal.
Honor Roll
Owen Fitzgerald had a game-high seven tackles in Assumption's 21-17 win at Franklin Pierce on Saturday. Six of his seven tackles were solo; there was one tackle for a loss and one sack. His interception in the third quarter set up the go-ahead touchdown by the Greyhounds.
May van Woudenberg recorded a goal in each game this week, as Assumption pushed their winning streak to nine games. She scored a goal on three shots against Franklin Pierce before netting the game-winner against Bentley on Saturday.
Lily Daly continued her hot stretch in NE10 action, extending her point streak to eight games. In two home wins for the Greyhounds this past week, she logged both a goal and an assist as Assumption improved to nine-straight wins and 9-0 in NE10 action.
Francisco Teixeira logged a career-high ten saves in Assumption's 1-1 tie at Division I University of Connecticut. The only goal he allowed was on a penalty kick in the 81st minute.
Brandi Montoya averaged 5.44 digs per set in two games this week. In a five-set thriller against Pace, she logged 29 digs before making 20 in four sets against Saint Michael's.
