MANCHESTER, N.H. - Two goals from Elle Murray, including one with 2:06 remaining in regulation, gave the Assumption University field hockey team a 3-2 win over Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 Conference action Wednesday evening.
THE BASICS:
Score: Assumption University 3, Southern New Hampshire University 2
Records: Greyhounds (11-4, 10-0 NE10), Penmen (7-7, 6-4 NE10)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The game started slow, as both defenses were strong out of the gate. Assumption would be the first team to strike as Mia Salah scored off the rebound from a Chloe Kaeller shot. Salah would bat the ball into the goal directly off the save from the SNHU goaltender. The Penmen tried to answer in the second quarter, as they outshot Assumption 7-2 in the frame, but Paige Gillette logged five of her nine saves of the evening in the quarter.
Southern New Hampshire would tie the contest up at 1-1 early into the third quarter as Annemartine Christis scored her fourth of the year. Three minutes later, Elle Murray ripped a shot from the top of the circle, beating the goaltender to the far post.
The score would remain 2-1 Assumption until the early moments of the fourth quarter, as Minke van de Poll put in her 11th of the year to tie the game at 2-2. Murray would get the last say as she tipped in the cross-circle pass from Lily Daly to lift the Greyhounds to a 3-2 win.
