HOW IT HAPPENED
The Greyhounds and Eagles each sought to push the pace during the opening period. Post would attempt three shots early. Carissa Mudrak would scoop up two of the three, with the final shot missing the target. Ella Rago tried to open the scoring for the Hounds, although her shot was also saved. The Eagles would be the first to score as Julia Wysocki snuck one by the Greyhounds defense during a Post powerplay. Assumption, eager to respond, fired eight shot attempts while only allowing Post to attempt two shots. Jenna Chaplain and Alexi Kirkeby would connect on an assist as Teagan Vaughan buried a long-range shot in the back of the net to tie the game, also at the hands of an Assumption powerplay. The remainder of the period was back-and-forth between the Eagles and Greyhounds, although the game was netted at one apiece heading into the second period.
Assumption was quick to score in the second period. Rachel Agerter and Alexa Hanrahan assisted Jenna Chaplain just 27 seconds into the second period as the Hounds gained their first lead of the evening. Post and Assumption traded shots, continuing their back-and-forth action from the first period. However, Sheridan Terrazzano gave the Hounds a commanding 3-1 lead off an assist from Vaughan 15:49 into the second period. The Greyhounds' two-score lead lasted under ten seconds, as Post immediately struck back, cutting the lead back to one. After a barrage of seven shot attempts, Ava McGaffigan scored in the remaining two minutes of the period for the Hounds.
The Greyhounds appeared as if they were going to cruise by Post in the third period, although the Eagles had other plans. With three minutes of play left in the contest, Julia Wysocki scored her second goal of the game, reducing the deficit to one for the Eagles. With the goalie pulled, the Eagles pulled off a miracle as Wysocki went for a hat trick, scoring with 0.3 seconds remaining, to send the game to overtime. Overtime lasted just over two minutes as Emma Gurnell scored the game-winner for the Greyhounds. Assumption picked up their first win of the season in a 5-4 victory.
