WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University football team was knocked off by Saint Anselm College in Northeast-10 action on Saturday, as the Hawks edged the Greyhounds 14-0 in a rain-soaked Brian Kelly '83 Stadium Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In a soaking rain, the two teams struggled on offense for the entirety of the game. Saint Anselm would be the first team to score with 1:16 remaining in the first quarter, as Justin Villanueva recovered the fumbled punt return and scored a touchdown. In the second quarter, the Hawks lined up for a 25-yard field goal, but it was blocked by Joe MacDougall, keeping the game scoreless going into halftime.
Saint Anselm would eventually go up two scores with 2:22 remaining in the third quarter as Rio Ferguson ran up the middle for an 11-yard touchdown sprint. The Greyhounds would be unable to establish any offense during the contest and would be shutout for the first time this year.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Assumption was shutout for the first time since Sept. 4, 2021, as they were blanked by Kutztown.
- With a block field goal in the second quarter, MacDougall improved his season total to five.
- The two teams combined for 16 total first downs, with Saint Anselm holding a 10-6 advantage.
- The Hawks rushed for 158 yards, while the Greyhounds netted 73.
- The two teams had trouble holding on to the ball, as there were 12 fumbles on the day.
