WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University men's ice hockey team opened the season with a 3-2 win over Nichols College in the opening round of the Third Annual Woo Cup at the Worcester Ice Center Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption started fast, as they outshot Nichols 13-6 in the opening 20 minutes. The Greyhounds were the first team to strike, as
Jonathan Surrette struck on the man advantage, with
Shane Sullivan and
John Woernle getting the helpers at the 13:01 marker.
The Bison would flip the momentum in the second period, as they snagged two goals in the first half of the frame. Assumption finished the period intense, as
Ryan Decker tied the game with Surrette and Sullivan with the apples.
The third period was all Assumption as they outshot Nichols 16-3, with
Ronny Paragallo netting the game-winner at 12:40.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Thomas McLarnon picked up the win, as he logged 23 saves in the contest.
- Assumption outshot Nichols 40-26 in the contest, while the Bison won 38-of-68 faceoffs.
- The Greyhounds went 2-for-17 on the man-advantage, while Nichols was 1-for-4.
- Assumption snapped a nine-game losing streak to the Bison, which goes back to Nov. 11, 2011, when the Greyhounds defeated the Bison 5-1.
- Nichols still leads in the all-time series 39-32-2
