Women's Soccer topped by No. 3 Saint Rose

WORCESTER, Mass – The Assumption University women's soccer team fell to the No. 3 ranked The College of Saint Rose on Tuesday evening, falling 3-0 at Normand Marois '57 Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Assumption came out with a lot of energy as they tried to meet the Golden Knights with physicality. Delaney Farinha and Kate Carleson fired shots wide, trying to test the keeper. After some pressure from the visitors, Mia Klammer opened the scoring off of a Sydney Myers assist. Only four minutes later, Klammer added another one with a header off of a Jada Brown cross. While Assumption made attacking substitutions to try and change it up, Saint Rose controlled the remainder of the second half. One last shot came from Ella Brower, but Kaylah Seavey saved it. At the break, Saint Rose was up 2-0.

Not long into the second half, Klammer completed her hat-trick, punching a rebound from a Seavey save into an open goal. Haleigh Ward and Farinha tried applying more pressure, with Ward's effort being saved by Peyton Derouen, and Farinha's shot was blocked. Those two continued to apply pressure, and so did Amaia Astiasaran, whose effort was above the crossbar. Towards the end, Assumption put their foot on the gas until the last whistle but could not convert any chances. The final score would be 3-0 in favor of the visitors in the Golden Knights. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Saint Rose had 14 shots compared to 10 from Assumption, while only one went on goal for the Hounds, and five found the frame for the Golden Knights
  • Klammer scored a hat-trick for the Golden Knights, scoring two first-half goals and another right after the restart.
  • The Golden Knights edged the Hounds six to one in corner kicks, while Assumption had 11 fouls compared to five from Saint Rose.
  • Farinha led the attacking effort with four shots.
