Women’s Rowing wraps up fall at Wormtown Chase

SHREWSBURY, Mass. - This past weekend, the Assumption University women's rowing team returned to Lake Quinsigamond to compete in the Wormtown Chase.
 
The Greyhounds fielded a varsity four, novice four, and a varsity eight under sunny skies and very light winds for the 3.5-mile race.
 
The varsity four finished the course in 23:14.3, good for 7th place in a 12-boat field. The Greyhounds finished just behind the Holy Cross B boat (22:41). Ahead of US Coast Guard A boat (23:21), Amherst College B (23:24), Connecticut College B (23:50), Connecticut College A (24:19) and Amherst College C (28:16). Holy Cross A won the race in a time of 21:16. The Greyhound four was comprised of coxswain Bella Baker (GRAD) and from stroke to bow were Bella Perryman, Olivia Shan, Alisia Cacciola, and Carly Duvall.
 
The novice four finished in third place at 33:14 behind WPI and Holy Cross.
All of the athletes in the Greyhound novice boat were competing in their first-ever rowing event. The boat was coxed by Roz Carew-Lyons, rowing from stroke to bow were Abby Violett, Madisen Hobbs, Jessica Crosby, and Riley Molongoski.
 
The Varsity 8 finished off the day at 24:22, good for 14th place out of 15 boats. The eight included two novice rowers, also competing in their first-ever race. The boat was coxed by Bella Baker, and from stroke to bow were Bella Perryman, Olivia Shan, Alisia Cacciola, Katie Ickes, Sydney Morrissey, Cassidy O'Hara, Izzy Anzalone, and Carly Duvall.
 
"Last year, we had six people on our roster at this point in the season," said David DeIuliis, Women's Rowing Coach. "We've grown our roster to twenty athletes, 16 of whom were raced today. We have an amazing amount of potential in this group, and we are excited for the spring to see where we can take the program."
