GARDEN CITY, NY - The Assumption University field hockey team used a third-quarter goal by
Lily Daly to extend the Greyhounds' winning streak to seven games following a 1-0 Northeast-10 Conference contest at Adelphi University Saturday afternoon.
THE BASICS:
Score: Assumption University 1, Adelphi University 0
Records: Greyhounds (8-4, 7-0 NE10), Panthers (4-7, 3-4 NE10)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first quarter could not find a difference between the Hounds and Panthers, as Assumption offered more chances.
Lily Daly started things with a penalty corner at 6:35, where
May van Woudenberg got a shot off, but Amanda Montiel made the save. Van Woudenberg and Daly continued to try and pepper the keeper but could not find an answer.
Elle Murray attempted by shooting on the frame, but Montiel remained strong in the net, making one of her eight saves on the day. At halftime, the score remained 0-0.
Assumption finally broke the deadlock in the third quarter. Daly scored her eighth goal of the season off of a rebound from a
Mia Salah shot, giving the Hounds the advantage. The Panthers almost responded immediately, hitting the post on a shot. Assumption had more opportunities to double their lead, as did the Panthers to tie things up, but neither could find the net again. Despite battling until the end, Adelphi would lose at home, and the Greyhounds took a 1-0 win at Garden City.
