WORCESTER, Mass. – Leo Piandes and
Thomas McLarnon earned Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week honor, as they represented Assumption University in the weekly awards, while three others were named to the Honor Roll mentions announced by the NE10 Conference office on Monday afternoon.
Leo Piandes was named NE10 Player of the Week, as he made his presence felt in his first two games of the year. On Friday night, he scored the game-tying goal with 1:29 remaining in regulation, leading to a 3-2 OT win at Saint Anselm. Piandes capped off the weekend with a goal and an assist on Saturday. He assisted on the game's first goal for the Greyhounds, cutting the deficit to 2-1 in the tail end of the first period before netting the game-winner with 1:13 remaining in overtime, giving Assumption the 4-3 win.
Thomas McLarnon earned NE10 Goaltender of the Week as he picked up two overtime wins for the Greyhounds, winning both games at Saint Anselm on Friday and Saturday. On Friday, he logged 32 saves in a 3-2 win before closing out the weekend with a 28-save performance in a 4-3 win to complete the weekend sweep. McLarnon posted a 2.40 goals-against average while supporting a .923 save percentage.
Honor Roll
Gavin Johnson scored his fifth touchdown on the year and the first on special teams. He took the kick-off 86 yards for a score to increase his kick return average to 48.3 yards per return on the year.
Kasey Draper made an immediate impact on the Greyhounds starting lineup. The transfer from Roanoke College poured in 27 points in Assumption's game against Felician. He followed that up with a 21-point performance in the 82-81 OT win against Bloomfield. Through the two games, he shot 48.5 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from long range. Draper also has one steal per game.
Marina Callahan's near triple-double in the season opener gave No. 6/7 Assumption an 80-59 win over Post on Sunday. She scored 26 points (10-for-15 from the field) and paced the Greyhounds with career-highs with 13 rebounds and seven assists. Callahan is either tied or leads the Northeast-10 Conference in points, rebounds, and rebounds.
