GARDNER, Mass. – The Assumption University men's ice hockey team dropped their first game of the year, as the Greyhounds fell to Franklin Pierce University 5-1 in Northeast-10 Conference action, on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Franklin Pierce was the first team to score, as Tyson Springer collected the loose puck off the offensive zone face-off and used a backhand to beat the Assumption netminder. Dimitris Christou doubled the Ravens' lead eight minutes into the period as his wrist shot from the slot beat Michael Hauswirth over his blocker. Jonathan Surrette put Assumption on the board, using a backhanded shot to cut the deficit in half. Franklin Pierce answered in the final minute of the period, as Cody Rumsey scored with 5.0 left in the frame.
Despite being outshot 53-28 in the final two periods, the Ravens scored twice, including an empty netter to make the final score 5-1.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Michael Hauswirth recorded 18 saves in his first action of the year.
- Assumption outshot Franklin Pierce 70-47, but the shots on goal were only 38-23.
- The Greyhounds won 45-of-74 faceoffs.
