HOW IT HAPPENED
It started as a low-scoring game, as both teams struggled to assemble points early on. Teagan Kamm broke a stretch of six minutes where the Hounds had only scored two points with back-to-back buckets, as the Hounds trailed 9-6. Saint Anselm got going and extended their lead to 16-10 at the end of quarter one.
The Hawks extended their lead to ten with an Anna Nelson layup with seven minutes left in the half, leading to an Assumption timeout to discuss things. Kamm would continue her solid day with another bucket off a Marina Callahan assist. Molly Stokes got herself on the board, and the half ended with Kaijhe Hall converting on the layup; however, the home side would hold the 31-24 lead at the break.
Assumption opened the second on an 8-0 run, taking the lead through two free throws from Stokes. It was back-and-forth action for the next couple of minutes as Callahan got going, and Liv Robles scored the layup and free throw for the three-point play. With three minutes to go, the Hawks sparked a quick run and played solid defense to lead 46-41 into the fourth.
The Hounds kept Saint Anselm's lead between four to six points but could never overtake it and lead themselves. Another free throw from Robles at 40 seconds got the lead up to eight and out of range for the Hounds to crawl back from. Assumption fell on the road to Saint Anselm, 69-60.
